Pre-Draft Outlook
On Feb. 2, the Mavs made a franchise-altering trade, sending Luka Dončić to the Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis, Max Christie and a 2029 draft pick. However, a rash of injuries to Davis (adductor), Kyrie Irving (ACL), Dereck Lively II (ankle), Daniel Gafford (knee) and P.J. Washington (ankle) kept the Mavs out of the playoffs and into the Draft Lottery. The core of this win-now team remains under contract, with Irving — who is expected to miss much of next season — holding a player option.
The Way To Go
On May 12, just over three months since the trade that sent shock waves through the sports world, the Mavs hit a stroke of franchise-altering luck, overcoming long odds (1.8% chance) to win the Draft Lottery and secure the No. 1 pick in the 2025 Draft. It is Dallas’ only pick on the board and all signs point toward Duke’s Cooper Flagg being the next face of the Mavs’ future.
