Pre-Draft Outlook
Their first-rounder belongs to Miami as payment for Jimmy Butler. Besides, the Warriors, as constructed with Butler, Stephen Curry and Draymond Green (who are all well into or past their primes), want to win now. It’s hard to imagine a first-rounder impacting this philosophy anyway. Golden State will emphasize the draft down the road, once Curry is done and the bill for being a contender for decades finally comes due.
The Way To Go
The good news is that Green is a former second-round pick. The questionable news is whether the Warriors can find anyone near his talent with the 41st pick. The draft is a dice roll at that point, with teams using those picks on players who’ll head directly to the NBA G League or be stashed in Europe. Maybe Johni Broome, the scrappy big man who powered Auburn, can fall that far.
