Pre-Draft Outlook
The aftershocks of the Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal trades run long and deep. The Suns are financially strapped, asset-restricted and at the mercy of other teams regarding the Draft for the foreseeable future. Their only solace is that second-seeded Houston didn’t vault into the top four with their pick (acquired from Brooklyn). As it is, Phoenix enters the offseason with arguably the shortest stack in the room … unless it dares to cash out a superstar chip to regroup.
The Way To Go
The Suns’ best-case scenario would be to repeat last year’s draft, which saw them trade for the rights to 28th overall pick Ryan Dunn. The 6-foot-6 forward showed enough defensive ability and improved shooting to earn a spot in the Castrol Rising Stars at All-Star Weekend. Netting a similar talent here would be a win for a Phoenix team that has few ways to earn them and needs quality talent and effort at almost every position.
