Pre-Draft Outlook
The scar suffered from missing out on the top pick — or even a top three — after posting the worst record in the league is still fresh, and it’s a wound that probably won’t heal anytime soon. But no sense in wallowing for the Jazz, which has never held the No. 1 overall selection. Utah must now decide whether to stick with a rebuilding philosophy primarily through the draft, or go outside and gun the engine for once.
The Way To Go
Armed with the Nos. 5 and 21 selections, Utah is actually in a decent position to bolster its young mix. The best available at 5 are very likely to be promising swingmen — Tre Johnson of Texas and Kon Knueppel of Duke tops among them. As for 21, is Michigan’s Jase Richardson, son of Jason, still around? More likely, the Jazz will see Colorado State senior Nique Clifford, a swingman who could help right away.
