Sergio De Larrea is a 19-year-old from Spain who’s spent the last couple years playing for Valencia Basket in the Euroleague. Analysis
De Larrea thrives with the ball in his hands, like most lead guards typically do. However, he likes to mix it up when it comes to scoring and facilitating for teammates. His 6-foot-5 size is something that’s becoming much more of the norm in the modern NBA when it comes to guys who can run an offense. He’s effective off ball screens and has a clean, confident stroke that he’ll pull up with if the defender drops off, and he’s a willing passer with good vision in pick-and-roll situations. The young Spaniard also has a solid handle, and although he might not blow past defenders, De Larrea blends some craftiness with patience on drives to the cup while having the ability to finish with either hand. On defense, he uses his frame well when bodying up in man coverage, and has a knack for reading/jumping passing lanes.
Projection
The combination of size and strength that De Larrea possesses at the lead guard position would be a perfect fit for almost any team that considers drafting him. He’s a long, versatile defender who could guard one through three in the future, all while being able to create opportunities for himself and others on offense. His skill set and the smoothness he displays on the court draw similarities to Jalen Williams (OKC) and Josh Giddey (CHI) at the next level, along with their ability to contribute in a number of ways.
